Last Thursday, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the honourable Archbishop Desmond Tutu's Book Launch, held at the historic St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town. This has definitely been one of the highlights in my eventing history.
It was such an honour to experience the presence of a South African man whose humility and grace preceeds him in a country where sensible authoritative figures are lacking. The Archbishop is such a gracious man and can be admired for the tact and dignity with which he carries himself, especially with regards to the absence of his great friend - The Dalai Lama.

Bono, from U2, really summed up the essence of the Archbishop beautifully. His tribute was a literal translation of the Archbishops' life. One important aspect of the tribute which essentially stood out for me, was when he attributed the grace and charisma of Desmond Tutu to a secret weapon. This secret weapon was that of silence. He was so profound and yet so accurate.

What a blessing the Soweto Gospel Choir were, and a fitting tribute through their song selection. To have so many talented and influential people under one roof, was already a more than fitting tribute to the Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The collaboration of "I still havent found what I'm looking for," between Bono and The Soweto Gospel Choir was an incredible experience, one which does not happen on a daily basis. It was absolutely breathtaking.

Being of sound health, and still able to rhythmically move, is a definite achievement at the age of 80 years. The book launch was the first of the festivities to occur in conjunction with his birthday week.
Personally, the tone of humility was encompossed through many facets on the day. Namely; the guests, the scale of the celebration as well as the venue choice. Kristen Bell, an invited guest, simply just reaffirmed this for me. Her inner beauty radiated throughout her being. It was just so inspiring, how someone with such fame and fortune, could be that down to earth and approachable. She really is such a humble beauty.
